Hexbar Workout vs. Barbell Deadlift Workouts – Fitness Rx Tampa

Hexbar deadlift workouts are a great way to work your legs if you’re looking for a more creative exercise than the standard squat. Today, we’ll discuss why using a hexbar in your workout, as opposed to the more traditional Olympic barbell row. The hexbar is in the shape of a hexagon, which surrounds your body and basically forces you to keep the appropriate form while doing your squat. It is said to be more comfortable to use a hexbar than a barbell because it is less stressful on your back. By keeping the proper form, you are less likely to injure yourself while you are working out and could also safely lift more weight.

Flex Online reported that a research team out of the U.K. studied the effects of competitive powerlifters using a barbell versus a hexbar, finding that the test subjects were able to lift almost 50 more pounds with a hexbar.  It was then reported in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research that deadlifts performed with a hexbar resulted in significantly less stress on the back.

When doing deadlift squats, proper form is very important. You want to make sure that you keep your feet shoulder-width apart, your back straight and your head facing forward. If you keep those things in mind, you’ll be giving yourself the best squat workout possible.  The other most common error in doing squats with a barbell, is letting your knees go too far over your toes.  By using a hexbar, you’ll keep your body in line and in the right positioning. The hexbar forces your squat form to remain in line.

You can find a hexbar in most gyms, like Craig Chapin’s FitnessRx location in Tampa at Powerhouse Gym. Check out the photos to see appropriate squat form using a hexbar. You can also see how NOT to squat with a barbell.
